Giving Fiber to a Baby
Fiber rich foods are good for young toddlers, but this is after the baby is taking solid foods. For example, isabgol, or psyllium husk seeds, would be OK for toddlers.
What kind of fiber rich foods can you give to babies?
- mashed beans
- sweet potatoes
- couscous
- any fruit with easy to chew skin (an apple without the peel has 2g Fiber, with the peel is around 3.75g fiber)
- hummus
- cabbage soup
- pumpkin
- turnips
- dates
- figs
- spinach
- apricot
- plum
Rice is something that can cause issues. If your baby likes rice, brown rice will be a better choice, and brown rice with a bit of isabgol will probably be better. A teaspoon of isabgol will have 5g of fiber and the taste should not be noticeable.
prune juice is a high fiber juice, though it is possible your baby won’t like it unless it is diluted.
